Paul D’Alessandris has been a physics professor at Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY, since 1990. Inspired by a series of Two-Year College Physics Workshop projects he attended in the early 90’s, D’Alessandris began a complete restructuring of his introductory physics courses. D’Alessandris was the PI or co-PI of four National Science Foundation grants awarded to aid the development and dissemination of this work. One grant, Spiral Physics Active Learning Workbooks, resulted in a series of workbooks suitable for use in both the algebra- and calculus-based introductory courses. D’Alessandris is the co-author, with Alan Van Heuvelen, of ActivPhysics 2: Electricity and Magnetism, Optics, and Modern Physics, a suite of computer simulations and student activities originally published by Addison-Wesley and now available on-line.
